Travers Holbrook

About Me

My name is Travers Holbrook (he/him/his), the principal psychologist at Next Chapter Health. Having gained clinical experience in the education, community health, and private sectors, I noticed clients responded well to authenticity and shared values. I came to believe that connection with a therapist’s values, and also the values and overall purpose of the practice, would boost client engagement and lead to positive client outcomes.

I established Next Chapter Health so I could be an authentic practitioner within a truly values-led business. I wanted to build a practice that was people-focused, inclusive, and driven by ethical and sustainable business practices. Next Chapter Health moves away from the therapist being the expert in the room and instead works to build strong, collaborative therapeutic relationships. The goal is for clients to feel they have someone in their corner as we work to explore, understand and treat the challenges impacting their lives.

I firmly believe that what has gone before - our past, our trauma, our pain - does not have to dictate how the rest of our lives play out. I believe that therapies where the head, the heart, and the whole body, connect can help create core-level change and transformation. You don’t just know something; you feel it emotionally and physically! For example, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy can help achieve these significant, meaningful shifts, although I utilise many modalities in session.

My passion is working with clients with complex trauma histories, who often feel stuck, or are now at a place where they have the headspace to focus on the tough stuff. I am also passionate about providing support to neurodivergent individuals, clients with sex and intimacy challenges, and gender and sexually diverse clients. I have strong professional interests in the gut-brain connection and nutrition for mental health.

This practice is my Next Chapter and I hope I can help start you on the path to yours.

Fun Stuff

Outside of the counselling room, I am all about pop culture. It is not uncommon for me to connect with clients over their current streaming binge. Within the first few sessions, you will often hear my ‘Buffy’ theory of trauma therapy! Movies, TV series and books are how I spend my downtime and they help recharge my batteries. The pic shows me at a fancy dress party, dressed up as my fave Marvel superhero!

I love spending time with family and friends, including the family dog! I am a dog person but to all the cat people out there, I don’t dislike cats, I just don’t understand them. I have been told by a few clients that cats aren’t supposed to be understood, which becomes part of the appeal.
